Sally from the valley has her toes in the sand with her third love of her life this year and it is only May.
“Wouldn’t it be nice to be at the beach or even in love?” you muse.
Bob and Sue post all the perfect pictures – perfectly coiffed hair, little matching outfits, the beautiful home, nice rides, the little munchkins smiling, and even a little silly pic to break up the other 24 cookie cutter pics. They are at church every Sunday.
“Wow. Bob and Sue sure have it together. I wish them all the luck in the world. They are so happy every time I see them.” you muse again.
Ralph posts his adventures from all over the world. He is a pleasure seeker extraordinaire with no real trappings. His life lined up in all the “right” ways.
“Why can’t that be me?” you internally vomit.
The problem is that it is complete garbage. The only remotely legitimate thing is that it is a display of the superficial aspects of life.
The most honest example is the one who posted her third love of the year, displaying an inner reality of problems with selectivity.
Bob and Sue fight like mixed martial artists. They are broke because they spend more than they make. The kids are in therapy or a bootcamp for broken souls and spirits due to the even greater broken spirits of the parental units.
Ralph is only a day or so away from biting the barrel of a gun, because he is so unhappy.
Sure, there are happy, healthy and honest lives displayed, but it is an exception and you do not know who. Although you may know a few in your inner circles of either camp, we are consuming an extraordinary amount of falsehood.
In school, you could at least witness some reality as you were closer to some objective reality, but now we judge our lives by pictures and videos that do not show the underlying reality. We have become fake news.
There is a solution. Check social media only while you are on the toilet. At least that way, while you ingest more waste, some is on the way out and getting flushed.
